Data Release Guidelines
BSRN data can be made available to external users for bona fide research purposes at no cost. However, use of a particular station's data and the World Radiation Monitoring Center (WRMC) must always be explicitly acknowledged. Further interaction with the originating site scientists is encouraged because of the potential benefit to the data user. BSRN data sets provided by the WRMC must not be passed to a third party without the agreement of the WRMC. The above restriction shall not apply to any BSRN data which are made public through publication, presumably with some added value, and/or are incorporated into additional project(s) for wide release. In such events all BSRN data should be clearly identified as such in that release, with information as to how to obtain the original data directly from the BSRN archive. A copy of the publication is to be provided directly to the originator or preferably via the WRMC who will forward it to the originator. BSRN data must not be used for commercial applications.
Thus, all datasets retrievable directly via this pages are subject of the of the data release guidelines of the BSRN. Thus, they are read account restricted. Only persons who follow the data release guidelines are allowed to use the data. Read accounts for both - Pangaea and ftp access - can be obtained from Gert König-Langlo.
Data Retrieval via PANGAEA
As an alternative to the ftp-access to the rather complex station-to-archive files the Word Radiation Monitoring Center at AWI offers data access via the Publishing Network for Geoscientific & Environmental Data PANGAEA. Within PANGAEA all monthly BSRN-files are split up into their different logical records (LR):
- LR 0100 + LR 0300 (Basic and other measurements)
- LR 0300 (Other measurements only, including net and upward fluxes)
- LR 0500 (Ultra-violet measurements)
- LR 1000 (Meteorological synoptical observations)
- LR 1100 (Radiosonde measurements)
- LR 1200 (Ozone measurements)
- LR 1300 (Expanded measurements), Part I
- LR 3010 (Other measurements at 10 m, including upward fluxes)
- LR 3030 (Other measurements at 30 m, including upward fluxes)
- LR 3300 (Other measurements at 300 m, including upward fluxes)
- All logical records
Additionally, a Google-like interface for searching and distributing BSRN-data via web may be used, see example. The output of the search interface are links to single monthly datasets. Following one link leads to the meta data of this dataset. The data itself can be obtained in different formats after you logged in.
